Hands-On Networking: Experiment 17.1

Experiment 17.1

This experiment is straightforward with one exception.
The first optional extension is easily performed on a SOLARIS
machine, but on LINUX boxes (Red Hat 7.3, Mandrake 8.1) the
-p option has a very different meaning. It gives the PID and
the name of the program to which each socket belongs. That is
very interesting information and may be useful to you in other
experiments, but it does not help here. To do this extension
simply examine the file /proc/net/arp.
