Welcome to IS-171, Computing With Spreadsheets, at Calvin College.

Course Outcomes: Students successfully completing this course will demonstrate their ability to:

  1. Create a useful Excel worksheet which includes all of the available formatting options.

  2. Enter formulas and basic functions and properly use relative, absolute and mixed cell references.

  3. Create charts, chart shapes, sparklines and use OLE to include data and charts in Word documents.

  4. Pass data between Excel worksheets within an Excel workbook using 3-D formulas.

  5. Use conditional formatting, data validation, cell names in formulas and hide rows and/or columns.

  6. Create, sort, and filter Excel tables, and use PivotTables, PivotCharts and Scenarios.

  7. Use advanced functions such as IF, VLOOKUP, PMT, FV, IFERROR, COUNTIFS and AVERAGEIFS.

  8. Record and edit macros and associate them with buttons on a worksheet.

  9. Get external data from other sources and include the data on a worksheet.
