In this project, you will create a spreadsheet for a hypothetical business,
chart some marketing data, and produce a letter to send out to prospective
customers. You may choose any business you'd like. It might involve selling
products (e.g., Betty's Baked Bananas!) or services (Don't want the Gluteal
Fungus? Have your bathrooms disinfected by Fred's Fungal Services!). Your
business should have at least four products or services.
For the assignment, do the following things:
- Download the sample spreadsheet file: proj4.xls
and the sample letter: proj4.doc.
The spreadsheet contains a single worksheet labeled
"business" with some sample data in it. The letter contains a sample
form letter that includes parts of the spreadsheet.
- Create your own business spreadsheet. It doesn't matter what data this
spreadsheet contains, but it should be a table of your products/services
with some sort of column or row summations from which you can produce an
appropriate chart showing some relevant distribution (see below). Format
your table by using an appropriate header for each column, formatted bold
and formatting the cells containing monetary values as currency.
- The simplest approach here is to use the sample spreadsheet as a model—you could just make up some new
goods/services and then type new numbers into the given chart.
- 9 points (out of 25) for this assignment are reserved developing your
own unique data (i.e., one that doesn't use the student list or dorms list
given in the example). Also change the look of the table by using
different colors, fonts, and/or layout.
- Create an appropriate chart that shows some relevant
marketing data and format this chart by including a title and
identifying each of the relevant chart elements.
- Create a marketing letter that promotes your
products/services. It should be formatted as a standard letter, and it
should include part of your spreadsheet and your whole chart.
(These features are demonstrated in the sample letter available above.)
You can copy things between Excel and Word like so:
- Select the chart or table in Excel.
- Choose "Edit"-"Copy".
- Go to the appropriate place in your Word document.
- Choose "Edit"-"Paste".
Submit the following files in Moodle:
- your modified spreadsheet file with your table and chart
- your letter document
