Presentations consist of a status report at the end of CS/DATA 396 (typically Fall semester) and a final project presentation at the end of CS/DATA 398 (typically Spring semester).
Status Report (CS/DATA 396)
The status report presentation will be given to a public audience late in the
Fall semester (see the CS-X95 schedule). It should professionally tell a
compelling story by arranging the following elements in an appropriate order:
- Title slide
- Vision: your "elevator pitch" (see the report)
- Demo of an initial working prototype or preliminary research results
- Summary of what you have accomplished so far (connect to your objectives)
- How the design norms have shaped your project so far
- Problems encountered so far and how you overcame them
- What you'll work on next semester
Time: 5 minutes per presentation, plus 2-3 minutes for questions and transition.
Work with your advisor to develop this presentation.
Final Project Presentation (CS/DATA 398)
The final project presentation will be given to a public audience late in the
Spring semester (see the CS-X95 schedule). This may
involve participation in a poster session or a full demo and presentation as
appropriate.
The presentation should include the same elements as the status update, but
at a greater level of refinement and professionalism. Refer to the
report for more details.

- Vision: your "elevator pitch" (see the report)
- Demo of final product, or summary of research results and analysis
- What you accomplished (emphasizing how it addressed your vision)
- How the design norms shaped your project
- Problems encountered and how you overcame them
- Future work
Plan to practice doing this talk for your advisor and/or the course coordinator
as part of the course requirements.
All team members should participate in the final presentation.
Poster and Showcase (CS/DATA 398)
New for this cohort; details will be confirmed during the fall
semester. In addition to the final presentation, CS/DATA 398 teams will
present a poster at the Engineering senior design showcase at the end of the
spring semester. Expect three pieces:
- A one-page write-up of your project, including a team
photo, for the showcase booklet, due early in the spring
semester.
- A poster, which you'll draft, get feedback on, and revise. It
will be graded for quality.
- Attendance at the showcase, in business-formal attire, running a
live demo on a laptop at your poster. You do not need to attend the
Engineering closing ceremony. (Our oral presentations will still be during an x95 seminar session, as before.)
