Initial Statement ¶
Re-read D. Schuurman’s Technology and the Biblical Story, focusing on the “Redemption and Responsible Technology” section (pages 7–8).
Post a one-paragraph statement to this unit’s Forum in which you:
- Give a brief definition of at least two of Schuurman’s normative principles.
- Explain the purpose Schuurman sees for the normative principles in software development
- Discuss a perspective that aligns with Schuurman’s and one that differs from Schuurman’s. For inspiration, you might look at one of the lists of principles for tech ethics (sometimes called “AI Ethics”) that abound on the Internet; find one from a reputable source. Examples include:
- this summary of “Ethics Guidelines for Trustworthy AI” from the European Commission
- Google’s Responsible AI principles and practices
- Identify one norm that is the most compelling to you, and include one concrete example in your statement, not taken from the reading, that illustrates your position.
Grading is the same as in Forum 2
