Calvin CS Photo-Scavenger Hunt Game

Welcome to the Calvin CS Photo-Scavenger Hunt Game!

Instructions:

1. Teams. This is a team game; every participant must be a member of a team. Teams may have at most five members. Participants will be assigned to teams at the beginning of the session. Participants must be present at the start to be assigned to a team. Each team must have a smartphone with the ability to take and email pictures.
 
2. Photos. Following these instructions is a link to 45 unique locations on campus. In the time allotted, your team is to find and take photos of as many of these locations as possible. Care should be taken to ensure that the unique landmarks at these locations are visible in your photos. Likewise, your photos should mimic the picture's point of view at each location.
 
3. Reporting. Photos must be emailed to kvlinden+scavenger@gmail.com. To be recorded for your team, the subject line of your message must indicate:
   • Your team number, and
   • The location number (1-45).
   E-mail messages that do not clearly indicate both your team number AND the location number on the subject line will be ignored.
 
4. Scoring.
   • A photo will score 1 point plus 1 point per team member whose face is visible in the photo. If other people (non team members) are visible in the photo, your team members should find a creative way to distinguish themselves from those other people.
   • Each location has an associated multiplier (1X, 2X, or 3X) based on its obscurity or distance from the starting point. The total score for a photo will be the number of team members in the photo times the multiplier for that location. For example, a photo of 4 team members in a location whose multiplier is 1X will receive a total score of (1+4) x 1 = 5 points for that photo. A photo of the same 4 team members in a location whose multiplier is 3X will receive a total score of (1+4) x 3 = 15 points for that photo.
   • Only one photo per location per team will be counted.
 
5. Time.
   • The hunt will begin after the teams have been formed and the rules reviewed. People who arrive late risk being unable to participate.
   • The hunt ends at 4:30 pm; photos that arrive after that time will not be accepted. Teams are to check in at SB 010 at or before that time.
   All team members must be present for a team to check in.

   If a team is late arriving at the check in, they will receive a 1-point penalty for each minute they are late. After 4:40pm, this penalty grows to ∞; any teams arriving after this will not be checked in.

   To avoid any last-minute mishaps, you should e-mail each photo immediately after you take it, being sure to include your team number and the location number on the subject line.

 
6. Winning. Everyone who participates and has fun will win this game!
   • The team that finishes with the most points will be named the top scoring team.
   • The team that is earns the most points per team member will be named the most efficient team.
   Special prizes will be awarded to these two teams.
 
7. CS x95. CS x95 credit will be awarded to each member of a team that earns at least 50 points. Team members must be present at check in to receive their CS x95 credits.
 
8. Bad Weather Plan. Many of the locations can be reached from the starting point without going outside. If the weather is bad, your team should still be able to be able to earn the required minimum points in the allotted time without venturing outside.
 
9. Have fun. There are a variety of different strategies that might work for this game. Pool your knowledge as a team, read these instructions carefully, and be creative!
