Characteristics of a citation for a journal article

Watch for this symbol attached to your citations. This symbol indicates the library in which you are working owns that item.

Please note! The format of citations vary considerably between databases. All these characteristics may not be present in one citation. If a citation contains two or more of these characteristics, it's probably a journal citation.

1- The source title often contains the words "journal," "annals," or "bulletin".

2- Look for an abbreviation for volume (e.g., Vol or v.), or an abbreviation for number (e.g., no.).

3- Look for a page designation that has beginning and ending page numbers.

4- ISSN is the abbreviation for International Standard Serial Number. An excellent clue that the citation is for a journal article.
