I have just finished this experiment. It was not easy but with some help from my student, Tim Brom, we overcame the problems that usually turned out to variations between the version of bind on our FreeBSD image and the version described in the book that I used.
I had put this one off because we did configure DNS in the network administration course this past spring. However, when I looked back at that lab, I realized that we had missed out on all the fun by using YaST to do most of the work.
The best advice I can give you on this experiment is to find a book with a good chapter on DNS. I found The Complete FreeBSD by Greg Lehey published by O'Reilly to be an excellent resource.
