Facilities
Prof. Laverell, Josh Holtrop (BCS, 2007) & Phil Davis (BCS, 2006) monitor EmuLab performance in the hardware lab.
We maintain the following class-lab facilities.
- GLUW Lab, a 34-seat facility of custom triple-boot (Linux, Windows XP, Windows 7) workstations.
- Hardware Lab, a lab for assembling and/or diagnosing computer hardware.
- Systems Lab, a 24-seat specialized lab for OS, networking, and security activities.
- Windows Lab, a 34-seat facility for Windows-specific courses and applications.
We also maintain a number of specialized research labs and virtual facilities.
Research Labs
CSX Lab (SB 319) This lab is maintained by Abstraction for their software and hardware projects.
Supercomputing Lab (SB 381) This lab is the home of the department’s Beowolf clusters:
CCEL (SB 383) This lab is the “brick and mortar division” of the Christian Classics Ethereal Library.
Virtual Facilities
mirror.calvin.edu mirrors various software, including various flavors of Linux, CPAN, Eclipse, Mozilla browsers and mail clients, etc.
Microsoft Developers Network Academic Alliance (MSDNAA) allows students enrolled in computer science or engineering courses to download and install any operating system, server, or development environment that Microsoft has to offer.
