Description
NetFlix, Peerflix, and Blockbuster Total Access all offer easy movie rentals. These services allow users to rent movies in a new way. NetFlix pioneered the web transaction approach of rentals while Peerflix and Blockbuster Total Access have only recently tried to duplicate Netflix’s success, albeit in slightly different ways. Peerflix, as the name suggests, allows people to “rent” movies from other registered users. Our project will be taking a similar approach as this. Blockbuster’s Total Access offers an online queue, but also allows people to return movies to brick and mortar stores, as well as through the mail.
We see our project leaning towards the Peerflix / Netflix model. We’ll be developing an application around the idea of sharing media among other people. This project will offer Calvin students the chance to share and borrow media from other students. We don’t want to strictly limit this to movies either. There is a strong gaming scene at Calvin so we see potential for trading video games, as well as music and movies.
