Course Objectives and Policies
-
Become familiar with the basic concepts and
protocols involved in computer networks.
-
Become proficient in TCP/IP programming.
-
Develop an appreciation for what makes up the internet
and grow in understanding of its value and its problems.
-
Since this course will equip the student in such a way
that he or she can use networks in quite beneficial or quite
harmful ways, there will be some discussion of the ways
that Christians should live on the information highway.
Students with disabilities:
Calvin will make reasonable accommodations for persons with documented
disabilities. Students should notify the Coordinator of Services for
Students with Disabilities located in the Student Academic Services,
HH455. Students should notify their instructors within the first two
weeks of class.
Attendence:
Faithful attendence will help you stay current in the course.
Remaining current is important, as it is very difficult to catch up once you fall behind.
Grading: Your final grade in this course will be based upon your scores on...
-
the regular projects (30%),
-
the course project (25%),
-
the hour exam (20%), and
-
the final exam (25%).
An incomplete grade (I) will be granted only in unusual
circumstances, and only if those circumstances
have been confirmed by the Student Life office.
Procrastination does not qualify as an unusual circumstance.
Course Format
The classroom sessions will proceed in the
following way:
- Students read the material to be covered in
Internetworking.
- We go over slides (ppt or pdf) with time for questions.
- The remaining time will be spent unpacking the less
obvious points, going beyond the text, and talking about
how the concepts would be put into practice. As much
of this time as is required will be spent discussing C programming.
