This exercise assumes that the GNU debugger (gdb) has been correctly installed on your system for use in conjunction with GNU emacs or xemacs. If it has not, then you should instruct your students to skip those parts of the exercise that deal with the debugger.
The exercise uses the files Makefile, payroll.cpp, pay.h, pay.cpp, and pay.doc. Links for each of these files are provided in the exercise; however if you wish to avoid network traffic, you should download them ahead of time into a 3b subdirectory of your course directory.
